Data center and collocation

Few economic sectors change as rapidly as infocommunications, a thing that has been existing for a few years only, just like the term coined for it. One of the most obvious illustrations of its rapid development is the spectacular penetration of data centres.

The most important features of these special facilities are their high capacity and their telecommunications connections with multiple backup systems and extremely high transmission capacity. No wonder their importance has grown spectacularly lately, as the use of server parks has become essential due to certain major developments in information technology. In addition to the enormous amount of data generated by corporate and private users and the increasingly important role of business IT as a service, the growing need for information security also justifies the use of data centres complying with special standards and strict international recommendations.

As Hungary's leading infocommunications solution provider, Invitech has altogether six data centres at geographically separate sites in Budapest and the Southern Great Plain. In the following sections, we describe some of our commercial facilities that have special significance for our existing and potential corporate and institutional clients.

Invitech's data centres have been constructed in compliance with the international recommendations set by Uptime Institute. These recommendations cover technological details, capacities in particular, as well as redundancy levels and maintainability.

Monitoring systems installed for data centres:

  •   Building management system (BMS) controlled by experienced operators
  •   Operating mode indications and error alerts for each piece of equipment
  •   Temperature, humidity and air speed sensors, warning system for exceeded limit values, trend analysis
  •   Water ingress sensors under each refrigerator unit and pipe connection
  •   24/7 remote hand services provided by operators (restart, IP KVM console)

Power supply

The data centre is powered by two independent medium-voltage cables dedicated for the purpose. Each of the two power supply cables is connected to a self-powered transformer with a capacity of 1600 kVA per side. Each of the two power supply paths has its own emergency backup generator. The 1400kVA Cummins units are able to provide the necessary power supply for up to 24 hours in the case of a central power failure, using locally-stored fuel. Uninterruptible power supply to IT systems is provided by two Eaton UPS systems (independent A and B sides). These UPS groups are redundant in themselves. The combined built-in UPS power is 3300 kVA. Each UPS has its own battery group, with a 30-minute on-battery run-time at full nominal load. Customers can connect with their servers to a real, independent bidirectional power system with the two supply sides sharing no common point. Power supply availability is 99.999%.

Cooling

The data centre is cooled by a system known as chilled water cooling. The system is composed of an outdoor chiller farm and indoor HVAC units complemented by energy-saving cooling solutions and free cooling condensers.
  • Outdoor units are installed in pairs. The nominal cooling capacity is 2.4 MW.
  • The cooling system includes 48 HVAC units, 50 kW each, with humidifier function (two extra units beyond the necessary numbers in each room).
  • The building is supplied with fresh, dust-free and tempered air by a ventilation system.
  • The racks in the computer room have a “hot and cold aisles” design.
  • Cooling availability is 99.999%.

Certificates and compliances

  • ISO/IEC 27001 information security management system
  • ISO/IEC 20000-1 information technology management system
